Yiddish in the Americas: Celebrating IWO and YIVO in the Western Hemisphere

Celebrate IWO in Buenos Aires and YIVO in New York: two prestigious institutions cultivating Yiddish cultures in the Americas through archival preservation, librarianship, scholarship, art, and support for community events.

IWO's Director Silvia Hansman and Stefanie Halpern, Director of the Archives at the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research, will relate the history of their institutions and talk about ongoing projects. They will present selected items from the collections they steward, and commemorate individuals whose work shaped the two institutions and their collections. Before opening the discussion to audience members, the two speakers will offer insights into their institutions’ plans for their second century of operations.
